     The 25th Annual Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Iowa Firefighters Memorial site in Coralville. Address for the site: 1 Russell Slade Blvd. (Exit 242 off of I-80). The Annual Candlelight Service will be held on Saturday night, June 8 at 9 p.m.

     In the colder months it is difficult to come up with activities for training in firefighting. This winter seems to be dragging on much longer than the past years. We decided to go ahead and do an outside drill on the evening of our normal meeting.

At least one animal killed in the blaze

     A barn which housed show animals and equipment owned by Larry and Rita Hoblyn was destroyed by fire Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 20.

     Hello Nebraska Firefighters from your Firefighters Museum and Education Center. Time is flying by, it seems that before you know it two of our big events will be here. We will again have a booth at Fire School again in May. So please stop by and meet Matt and have a good chat with the staff that will be there as well.

     When writing an article for a fire call using the words “BFD responded to a house fire and put it out” would work and would be to the point. Or…tell a story… (See article below) teach a lesson or two, take credit and give credit. It’s a good thing to “Fear Fire”.

Chimney fire

This photo was taken Jan. 18 in Thorhult by Bob Thompson, Gygla Fire Chief. The fire is believed to have started from the chimney in the attic.

Anamosa fire

     Anamosa firefighters received a report of a house fire Monday afternoon, Jan. 14, and upon arrival the front portion of the house was ablaze.

Barn fire

     The Red Oak Fire Department was called to a barn fire on Feb. 11. The barn was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived.
